Metcalfe Joins Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki
BRETT METCALFE JOINS ROCKSTAR MAKITA SUZUKI FOR 2011
Brea, Calif. – October 5, 2010 – Rockstar Makita Suzuki is thrilled to welcome Brett Metcalfe to the team for the 2011 Supercross and Motocross race efforts aboard the championship-winning Suzuki fuel-injected RM-Z450. Metcalfe impressed the industry in 2010 with his strong finish in the AMA Pro Motocross series, with results as high as second place at the final race of the season at Pala Raceway. He ended his year in the Motocross series in second place behind his now-teammate Ryan Dungey, and showed plenty of promise on the racetrack.
Brett’s talent and speed led him to be the natural choice to fill out the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team. His skills and the smooth power of the RM-Z450 will surely be a strong match, and success will surely be the order of business in 2011. With new Team Manager Mike Webb and Team Advisor Ricky Carmichael, Metcalfe and Dungey will be racing to keep the number one plate on the RM-Z.
“I’m really excited to be joining the team,” Metcalfe said. “There’s no doubt that the RM-Z450 is a race-winning machine, and I can’t wait to start testing. I think the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team will be a good place for me to really focus on putting together a solid 2011. I’m looking forward to working with Mike, Ricky, and Ryan, and I’m ready to start racing.”
The Rockstar Makita Suzuki duo of Champion Ryan Dungey and Brett Metcalfe will be testing the new 2011 Suzuki RM-Z450 in preparation for the start of the AMA Supercross series in January.

KTM Signs Andrew Short to US Factory Team
Mattighofen, Austria - KTM, the brand that dominated the 2010 MX World Championships has announced at its headquarters in Mattighofen, Austria that it has secured the services of American racer Andrew Short for the Red Bull KTM factory team to compete in the 2011 AMA Supercross and Motocross Series.
Short, who raced as a winning member of the USA MX of Nations Team, will be part of the team lineup under the guiding hand of one of the sports most distinguished team managers, Roger DeCoster. DeCoster was also the man behind the USA’s successful title at the MXoN. Short’s selection to represent the USA at the MXoN underlines his status as one of the finest riders of his nation.
While selection for Team USA was an obvious highlight for Andrew in 2010, he also finished third overall in the AMA Nationals and came back after injury to finish strongly in the SX competition, including numerous podium finishes.
Andrew (Shorty) Short will ride for KTM in the SX and MX Open class competition in the USA and will be a factory teammate to KTM’s Mike Alessi and MX2 World Champion Marvin Musquin in the National MX competition. In addition, Ken Roczen, also new to the Red Bull KTM factory team in 2011, will, like Musquin, compete in the AMA Supercross Lites class. After the SX, the young German rider will return to Europe to ride for the KTM factory team in the World Championship GP series.
Pit Beirer, head of KTM Racing: “With Andrew, Mike, Marvin and Ken we have a solid lineup for our first year as a full factory racing team in USA competition. Under the guiding hand of Roger DeCoster, one of the most experienced and respected figures in the sport, we expect that this team will lay the groundwork for emulating the success we now enjoy in Europe.”
Roger DeCoster: “I have known Andrew for many years and of course we had closer contact this year when preparing and racing for the MXoN. I am looking forward to working with him and the other KTM riders as we begin testing and preparing for the coming season. We now have a strong team and one with real potential.”
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma but resident in Smithville, Texas, Short began riding (and racing) at just 5-years-old. He is married and has one daughter. He is a high achiever who believes that “You’re only as good as your last race.” Short’s 2010 season was capped off by earning the cover on the September issue of Racer X magazine.
